If you have had a hip replacement surgery since 2003, you should determine whether you have a recalled DePuy Hip Implant.
Contact Your Doctor
The simplest way to determine whether you have a recalled DePuy Hip Implant is to contact your doctor's office and schedule an appointment to see the surgeon that installed your artificial hip.
Following the August 2010 DePuy Hip Implant Recall, DePuy Orthopaedics contacted all surgeons that used the recalled DePuy Hip Implants. Upone notification of the recall, your surgeon should have contacted you to notify you that you have received a Recalled DePuy Hip Implant. However, if you were not contacted, you should still contact your surgeon's office to determine whether you received a Recalled DePuy Hip Implant Device. If you have received a recalled device, your surgeon will also be able to examine you for any negative symptoms associated with the Defective DePuy Hip Implants.
If you are unable to get in to see your surgeon, then your surgeon's office should be able to inform you if you have a Recalled DePuy Hip Implant Device.
Medical Device ID Card
Following your surgery, you may have been provided a Medical
Device ID Card in order to assist you in getting through X-ray
security screenings. The Medical Device ID Card may list the
specific make and model of the hip implant device you were
provided during your hip replacement surgery.
You are looking for either of the following devices:
DePuy ASR XL Acetabular Hip System DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing SystemIf you were not provided a Medical Device ID Card or if your Medical Device ID Card does not list the specific make and model of the hip implant device, then there are other ways to determine whether you have a Recalled DePuy Hip Implant Device.
Obtain Your Medical Records
As a patient you have a legal right to obtain a copy of your
medical records from the hospital where you had your hip implant
surgery performed or from your surgeon's office. You will have to
execute a medical authorization form. While your entire medical
chart likely consists of hundreds, if not thousands, of pages of
medical records, in order to determine whether you received a
Recalled DePuy Hip Implant Device you may only need two
critical portions of your medical records:
- Surgical Implant Record
- Operative Report
These two portions of your medical records are the most likely portions of your entire medical chart to identify the specific make and model of your implant device.
If you are unable to obtain your medical records, feel free to contact our office and we will obtain them on your behalf.
